"IMPORTANT: Dietary Requirements"
We need you to tell the School Meals Service, and the school, if you have any specific dietary requirements so we can ensure they are allocated to your childs individual account where required and any specific menus will be available to pre-order. Please ensure you do this via the link below. Existing dietary requirement records will not automatically carry over to School Grid without completion.
- If your Child has any dietary requirements, Please complete the link here. St Helens Catering Service - School Lunch Special Dietary Request.
Please note, We try to cater for all Dietary Requirements due to Medical reasons or Religious/Cultural beliefs. We are unable to offer alternative catering provision for reasons other than this, as the menus we offer are carefully managed to ensure they offer a delicious and nutritious meal in line with the standards set by government guidelines known as the "School Food Standards" If the form is completed on the basis of a medical need, evidence from a relevant medical professional will need to be provided to the school (If not done so already) before the application is completed. This also helps ensure schools are aware of medical needs outside of lunchtime.
- Once the request is made via the form, this will be processed by the catering service with all information shared with School and Kitchen teams.
Free School Meals
From 1 April 2018, the Department for Education has changed the eligibility criteria for free school meals by introducing an earnings limit for Universal Credit (UC) cases. The revised eligibility criteria can be found at https://www.sthelens.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals
To protect households moving onto Universal Credit, transitional protection has been introduced. This will apply to pupils in receipt of free school meals on 1st April 2018 or who become eligible for free school meals after this date. Under transitional protection pupils will remain eligible for free school meals until the rollout of UC has been completed (31 March 2022 *) and then to the end of their current phase of education, i.e. primary or secondary school. Please note that transitional protection only applies to the child and not to the household. As such, there may be circumstances where one sibling in a household may be eligible for free school meals due to transitional protection and another isn't.
The Department for Education has issued the following guidance: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/free-school-meals-guidance-for-schools-and-local-authorities
