Worship and RE
Worship & Religious Education
Our distinctiveness as a Church of England School lies at the heart of our ethos and we benefit from close links with our school church, St. Peter’s in Newton Le Willows. Our pledge to sharing our Christian distinctiveness is entrenched within our Vision and Values and the core curriculum as a whole.
At St. Peter’s we have four main Christian Values, which are:
Hope, Love, Faith & Trust.
The whole school focuses on our values, which means the children really get to explore these values in great depth.
Collective Worship forms our thoughts for the week and explores how this can add to our wider perceptive of the world. We enjoy worship led by the head teacher, members of staff, Reverend Stephen. Children are also positive about planning, leading and evaluating worship right through the school.
We follow the new Questful RE syllabus as suggested by Liverpool Diocese. We use this alongside a national resource Understanding Christianity. We believe in the importance of religious texts, the impact faith has on believer's lives and the connections we can make to the children's own experiences.
We are a Church of England (Aided) Primary School and as articulated in our Christian mission statement, ‘and the child became strong in body, mind and spirit’
RE was inspected by SIAMS in 2013 and our provision was described as outstanding in all areas.
St Peter’s has an ethos based on an unambiguous and explicit acknowledgment of its Christian underpinning.
Religious Education gives the children an opportunity to discover Christianity in depth. We consider it is also imperative to learn about Christianity around the world starting locally, thinking nationwide and then internationally. RE also provides our pupils with time to find out about other world faiths as they develop a sense of equality and justice for all peoples whatever their background and wherever they live.
