Year 5 2021 - 2022
Welcome to our class page!
If you have any questions, please contact the school office to arrange to speak with one of the Year 5 Team: Mrs. Vinyard, Mrs. Littlewood and Mrs. Davidson.
For details of all the exciting learning that will be taking place in Year 5, throughout half term five, please see the class newsletter below (downloadable files).
If you should need to isolate at home this half term and require home learning tasks, please support your child to complete work on their personalised pathway on Century on the first day at home. Following this, tasks will be added, at the start of each day, to your child's TEAMs account. When children return the completed work on TEAMs (click on the blue 'Return' button) , teachers will mark these and add regular comments. Paper copies of work or work completed in books can be returned to school for marking when children return.
P.E. lessons are on Mondays and K.A.B.s activities will take place every Friday. Please wear a suitable sports kit to school on these days.
Are you set up to receive Marvellous Me messages? Teachers send regular updates, reminders and rewards using Marvellous Me. Please contact us if you need details of how to receive these messages.
We are reading...
This half term, in our reading lessons, we are reading ' Pollution: a look behind the scenes' by The Literacy Company and in our writing lessons we will be studying 'The Paperbag Prince' by Colin Thompson.
Home Reading Books
Children read regularly in class and select home reading books to bring home. Please listen to your child read regularly and add a comment to his/her reading record to update us on progress at home. Children should bring reading books and records into school each day.
In half term five, the children will study the continent of Africa. They will name and locate some of the countries and learn about trade including Fairtrade. They will investigate some of the physical features including rivers, lakes, landscapes, habitats and the surrounding oceans and seas.
Each week, children have been asked to spend a couple of sessions on Century Tech to work through their personalised pathways (at the top of the screen on Century Tech). The activities are personalised and include short teaching videos which aim to develop English and maths skills further. Children will also receive weekly 'nuggets' of English and maths, set by the class teacher, to consolidate our current learning. New homework nuggets are added each Wednesday. Please support your child to complete these tasks by the following Wednesday.
Usernames and passwords have been sent home in the previous class. Please contact us if you need any assistance to access your account.
The following websites are of use to support learning multiplication and division facts at home:
Spelling and times tables tests take place each Thursday with Mrs. Littlewood. See the files below for a copy of this half term's spellings.
There are three Year 5 arithmetic tests (with answers) below, which you may wish to use throughout the year, to support your child's maths learning further. Y3/4 and Y5/6 common exception word lists can also be found in the files below. These give details of the common words which children are expected to read and spell.
