Chaplaincy

Hello,

I’m Canon Stephen of St Peter’s Church and School. I’m married to Janette and we have three grown up children Hannah, Joshua and Fiona. We also have a very friendly Labrador called Bert who assists me with many things in my study. Here he is:

I’ve been a vicar for over thirty years in the three northern dioceses of Manchester, Blackburn and Liverpool. I’ve worked as a chaplain in several of my parishes and in various roles and so I was delighted when Mr Robinson agreed that it would be a good idea for me to be appointed chaplain at St Peter’s School.

What is a Chaplain?

A chaplain is a person who cares for their organisation, both pastorally and spiritually. As a chaplain at St Peter’s School I’m here to support the children, staff and parents in a totally confidential and secure manner. I’m completely neutral, and non-judgemental in terms of authority and guidance. Perhaps most important of all I’m here as a friend and a witness to God’s love as revealed in Jesus Christ.

Chaplain’s Page

Mr Robinson has kindly given a page on the school website. I will post prayers, church news and Christian initiatives within the life of the school. I welcome contributions from children, staff and parents. I will keep parents up to speed with the Christian ethos and teaching of the school and of my work with Mrs Ainsworth who is St Peter’s school’s outstanding RE co-ordinator. Everything that we do at St Peter’s School is done within a framework of care, love and partnership.

One other prayer we have used is one used in school during the pandemic.

Dear Father,

We thank you that you love us and care about every part of our lives.

We thank you that you are with us in every situation and whereever we are.

We ask you will be with our school during this time of uncertainty, we ask you will bring peace and calm to each classroom and office in school.

We ask for you to be with the teachers, as they prepare their lessons for children in front of them and children on a screen.

We ask that children have peace as they go to school, and that they have fun being with their friends as they learn.

We ask for your healing power to be with the members of staff, children and their families who are ill, that they may make a speedy recovery.

We ask that you give wisdom to our headteachers and senior leaders as they make decisions for our school.

We thank you for our Governors and the work they do to provide support for our Headteacher and teachers, we pray you will give them wisdom as they seek to find creative ways of supporting the school during this time.

We thank you. We ask all these things of you.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
